YouTube is currently testing a new Community Leaderboard feature aimed at boosting engagement during livestreams. This experimental tool, now available to select creators in regions including India, introduces a live ranking system that highlights the most active viewers based on their participation in chat, Super Chats, Super Stickers, and membership gifting. The leaderboard, accessible via a crown icon in the live chat, showcases the top 50 engaged viewers for each stream, with the top three earning a special crown badge next to their names for added recognition.
The leaderboard is designed to reset with every livestream, ensuring that each broadcast offers a fresh opportunity for viewers to compete for top spots. Only those aged 18 or older are eligible to appear on the leaderboard, and viewers who prefer privacy can opt out through their YouTube settings. Participation is rewarded in real time, turning engagement into a competitive and interactive experience that benefits both viewers and creators by making chats livelier and potentially increasing revenue through paid features.
This initiative is part of YouTube’s broader strategy to deepen creator-audience interaction, complementing other recent updates like the “Hype” leaderboard, enhanced community hubs, and new live shopping tools. While the Community Leaderboard is still in its experimental phase and only available for streams where YouTube has enabled it, the feature signals a continued push to make livestreaming more dynamic, competitive, and rewarding for the platform’s global community.
